Campervan Insurance Renewal

I get the standard email from Devitt Insurance via CAMC, informing me that my policy is coming up for renewal and I'll automatically be charged I won't have to do anything, "Oh by the way we're increasing your policy by an extra £120" to £720 from £600.

I telephoned them this morning and asked is this right and they (notice no names given) said if you want us to dispute the quote go and find a quote cheaper come back to us and we'll put it to the loss adjusters to see if they can beat it, their advert says you'll also get £25.

I said if I'm going to the trouble to shop around and do your work for your and I find cheaper it's very unlikely I'll come back to you as I've done your work myself, and the reply was "that's up to you" (I hate it when companies say this, especially as I've received a minimum of one email per month selling insuring through CAMC).

My issues

  • I never gave them permission to automatically renew
  • What are they actually doing for the money they take for selling the policy
  • I got it cheaper from Adrian Flux, with a better policy for £480

On a positive note

  • I was told if your policy doesn't renew we'll send you a copy of your NCD

All of the above are my own words

I hope some of you find this helpful

Good for you.

I despise this 'auto renewal' set up, they just hope that you'll roll with it despite the increase. Whatever happened to good customer service, with an interest in us, the customer?

Loyalty is a thing of the past so glad you found somewhere that even beat last years premium..... I must say though I've been looking at renewals for my Qashqai & premiums have increased somewhat although I'm on a 'fixed' 3 year deal with Saga.

For my motorhome I've always used Comfort Insurance who have been very competitive with policies through Aviva.

We have just renewed our MH and car policy, not through the club as their quote was extortionate.

We had previously been with Saga on a fixed 3 year deal, this year the quote was increased by 117% so no Saga renewal. We tried Comfort among many others but got a very good competitive quote through LV.

The quote we got from Comfort was with LV, however going direct reduced it by almost £300.

Have noted your experience for when my MH insurance renews in Feb.....

Did you give feedback to Comfort?

Glad you also pocketed the difference... it definitely pays to shop around.

It certainly does, didn't give feed back to Comfort, to be honest by the time we had hung on the phone to half a frozen companies, I was glad to just get it done.

Get to do it all over again soon as the big car is due renewal 🥴

Just seen your post and Ditto had my renewal via Devitt for our car is up by £160 to  £734 !!! Same response - see if you can get it cheaper and we will see if we can beat it!!

As you say "doing the hard work for them. Swinton have quoted at around £540 !! and still gives 90 days European cover which is all we will need.

Might try LV for quote.

Anyone got other insurance companies worth trying??

Just spoke to CAMC (Devitt) to see if they can match quote from Swinton ie reduce by about £200.

They said they couldnt but ring next year as a new customer and we will beat it by £25!!

So much for loyalty!!

I thought this practise was being abolished.!!??

On a positive note after having car insurance policies rising from £230 to £280 and £140 to £175, my caravan insurance has gone down and the level of cover up. Great news from Lifesure with £31.5K of new for old cover, low excess and 30 days European cover at £200.

As previously mentioned elsewhere, vehicle motor policies are all rising rapidly.....

Caravan Guard quote was competitively priced but only covered UK breakdown as standard but once I hit 'retrieve quote' a window appeared saying due to value of my vehicle, to call....

Despite an increase of £80, I stayed with Comfort as it covers me for Europe & was similar in price to that quoted by CG for UK only.....

Your not going to believe this.

My new quote from devitt for £829 was via LV insurance!!

My Quote from LV direrct was £640.00 !!!

Spoke again to Devitt to match and they said sorry no can do.!!

What a great service CAMC  givers its members!!

I am just checking out all these recommendations and find that the price varies enormously. Previously with Comfort who I like, although Caravan Guard were about £80 cheaper. Comparison website £400 more, Club £200 more. Many “phone for quote” after spending 10 minutes filling in the information. Frustrating that some offer Motorhome insurance but don’t list van conversions then want to know what model of Fiat Ducato with a pick-list of 30 models and no way of finding out which is mine!

Have to read the small print on breakdown cover as there are limits on European breakdown recovery costs and emergency accommodation. Since when can you get a hotel for £50 a night!
