Why stay here ...

Fir Tree Woods is set in a peaceful rural location surrounded by views of the countryside. The site is on the edge of a 3 acres fir tree wood with hard standing pitches edged by newly landscaped grass. It is part of Rammerscales Estate, home of the Bell Macdonald family for over 225 years. During your stay you are welcome to walk around the grounds of Rammerscales House and admire the views.

There are an abundance of wooded areas and forestry plantations close by Fir Tree Woods on the Estate which you are welcome to explore. It is a good area for walking, cycling, horse riding and bird-watching. The Annandale Way Walking Route passes through the Estate and around Rammerscales House. It is 90km long and follows the valley of the River Annan from the Moffat Hills to the sea in the Solway Firth and has been designated by Nature Scot as one of Scotland's great trails.

Fir Tree Wood had been a Christmas Tree farm up until December 2023 and the many remaining trees are now up to 12 feet tall and will be allowed to continue to grow to maturity. There are paths up and down the site through the trees where you are welcome to walk your dog as well as many additional areas adjacent that you will enjoy exploring with your four legged friend. Please note that we are also a working sheep farm so please avoid walking through fields with livestock during the spring lambing season and keep dogs on leads at all times. You are very welcome to admire our new lambs from the surrounding lanes and roads. We can arrange the following for an additional fee with advance booking: Game fishing; stabling; Rammerscales House tour; farm experience & tennis.

Mossburn Community Farm is less than a mile away and open to the public daily from 10am to 3pm. You can see all kinds of farm animals there including Highland cattle, horses and goats and as well as smaller animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs. Entrance is free but donations are always welcome. The Town of Lochmaben is about 2.5 miles away and there is a 4km walk around Robert the Bruces Loch which takes in his family seat, Lochmaben Castle. His statue also stands in the High Street. The loch is a stopping point for migrating birds and the route takes just over an hour to complete.

There is drinking water situated at each pitch. We also have a picnic area, an information board and a service point with recycling. Advance booking is required. Please contact us by email. We are open all year and look forward to you staying with us. Please see our Facebook page for more information, updates and pictures.

A real find

Fir Tree Woods
This is a beautiful site, set among gentle hills, trees and fields. The set up is great, each pitch having hardstanding and its own tap. It was so quiet overnight, we slept very well. We heard owls in the evening and the dawn chorus is quite something. Walking on site is a treat as are the surrounding area and lochs. The link with Robert the Bruce is fascinating. We met Malcolm and Lynne, who came down to check all was ok. They have certainly got everything right as far as we are concerned. We will definitely be back.
