The results of The Caravan Club Media Awards 2007 were announced during a gala dinner at the National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, on Friday 20th June 2008.
Entries were invited in four categories, and listed below are the winners in each category:
Best Broadcast
- 1st Place – Mike Bushell - BBC
- 2nd Place – Michaela Strachan - BBC
Best Article
- 1st Place –Sarah Wakely, Titled ‘Fire and Ice’, published in Practical Motorhome – October 2007
- 2nd Place – Rob Ganley, Titled ‘Go with the Flow’, published in Practical Motorhome – August 2007
Best Journalist
- 1st Place – Doug King, Titles: ‘Caravanning is well wicked’, published in Which Caravan – May 2007 ‘Danger, gas leak’, published in Practical Motorhome – November 2007 and ‘All about Awnings’ published in Which Caravan – May 2007
- 2nd Place – John Wickersham, Titles: ‘Caravanning with children’, published in The Caravan Club Magazine – April 2007 ‘Loo rules’, published in Motor Caravan Magazine, February 2007 ‘DIY Builders Unite’, published in MMM – February 2007
Best Photographer
- 1st Place – Joanna Vaughan, Titles: ‘Europe’s Favourite A-Class’, published in Which Motorcaravan Magazine – February 2007. ‘Twin peaks’, published in Which Motorcaravan Magazine – July 2007 and ‘Dream Caravan’, published in Which Motorcaravan Magazine – December 2007
- 2nd Place – John Chapman, Titled: ‘Cornwall’s Heritage’, ‘Beautiful Britain’ and ‘Loire Valley’, all published in Out and About Magazine, March, April and December 2007
Entries were restricted to those published or broadcast during the period 1st January to 31st December 2007. An independent panel of judges assessed the entries.
The panel consisted of:
- Christine Ellis – journalist and author
- Alan Bond – photographer
- Guy Thatcher – cameraman/director
- Barry Williams – The Caravan Club’s Head of Publications
Sarah Wakely, winner of the Best Article category for ‘Fire and Ice’: the judges commented, ‘A motor caravan trip to Iceland that reads like an adventure to another world.’
Mike Bushell, winner of the Best Broadcast category for the BBC Breakfast item featuring Dame Kelly Holmes at the NEC: the item was highly praised by the judges, saying the feature “covered caravanning and motor caravanning in a fresh format and was highly entertaining.”
Doug King, winner of the Best Journalist Category: judge’s comments included “this journalist has huge experience in the caravanning world and can count many years of caravanning and indeed Club membership. He is able to write on a variety of topics and has always been a great ambassador for caravanning.”
Jo Vaughan, winner of the Best Photographer Category: her work was highly praised, “excellent picture composition, made you want to be there”.
Trevor Watson, Director General of The Caravan Club, who hosted the evening’s awards dinner, commented “The Club is pleased to see continued support for these awards. They were instigated to highlight professional and balanced caravanning journalism and that aim is certainly being achieved.”
