Motor industry launches new code of practice

29 August 2008

The motoring industry has launched a new code of practice aimed at improving the standards of garages across the country, it has been announced.

In news that may be of interest to touring caravan insurance customers and other consumers, the new guidelines commits subscribing garages to honest and fair services, competent and conscientious staff and open and transparent pricing.

"For too long the bad practices of a minority have damaged honest businesses and ripped off consumers. I'm delighted that the industry has got together to tackle this problem and drive up standards," comments secretary of state for the Department of Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform John Hutton.

Chris Mason, director of administrator Motor Codes, adds that the code is one of the most important pieces of consumer protection in the last 30 years, adding that it gives drivers peace of mind when getting their car repaired or serviced.

General Motors UK and the Retail Motor Industry Federation are among the bodies which have also welcomed the introduction of the guidelines.
