David Coulthard backs driving safety scheme

15 July 2008

A governmental driving scheme has been given backing from Formula One star David Coulthard.

In news that may interest car insurance customers and other consumers, he is encouraging motorists to share their ideas on how to produce drivers who are better and safer road users.

"Changing the way that people are taught to drive and making the test more real, can only be of benefit. The government has set out proposals to change this system - and now it's up to you to have your say," Mr Coulthard, who announced his retirement from Formula One racing earlier this year, states.

People can share their views online, while a range of live events are also taking place in cities including Manchester, Cardiff, Newcastle and Glasgow.

The Driving Standards Agency is keen to gather opinions from people on a variety of proposals, such as changes to the theory test, making practical exams more realistic and introducing a student handbook.
