Fishing in Scotland

12 March 2008

A wide range of year-round fishing opportunities are on offer throughout Scotland and much of it is undoubtedly world-class.

Tourist board VisitScotland explains that even the very popular rivers - such as the Spey and the Tweed - have vacancies at most times of the year, adding that anglers from the world over are tempted to the region to test their skills.

Online resource FishSpey explains that the River Spey can remain at a high level until June because it is snow-fed from the Cairngorm Mountains.

Wild pike fishing is the region's "hidden gem", with a great deal of locations set in beautiful and rugged scenery which is also perfect for hiking in.

For those who prefer the open water, the region offers a variety of sea fishing opportunities, combined with breathtaking coastal scenery.

The resource notes that the tope and skate off Scotland's west coast are particularly worthy of note.
