Museums and Galleries Month kicks off
09 May 2008
May is Museums and Galleries Month and the celebration was kicked off in recent days by culture minister Margaret Hodge at an event at London Transport Museum.
The notion of "ideas and innovation" is to be a source of inspiration for many events due to take place across the UK, online resource 24HourMuseum explains.
Ms Hodge comments: "This promises to be a great month for museums and galleries with some wonderful events which I hope will bring pleasure to many people."
Among the wide range of events due to take place during May is an exhibition entitled Saving a Century - Fifty Years Of The Victorian Society which will be at the Royal Institute of British Architects at its gallery in London until May 29th.
Those interested in touring around the country to visit the exhibitions have had a number of recommendations made to them by the National Trust, including Cragside in Northumberland, Fox Talbot Museum in Wiltshire and Woolsthorpe Manor in Lincolnshire.
