Winter tyres 'worth considering'
21 November 2008
Motorists should consider replacing their tyres with those more suited to the winter weather, one organisation claims.
According to TyreSafe, the changes in road conditions can cause problems for drivers, with new tyres reducing these risks.
Rob Beddis, TyreSafe chairman, comments: "They are designed to perform more effectively in the cold and wet weather, dramatically improving stopping distances."
He adds that new tyres will also have "more delicate cuts which are designed to absorb snow", which will increase grip on snowy roads.
Such tyres contain a higher amount of a natural rubber compound, the organisation continues, which reduce the amount of hardening which occurs when they vehicle is left out in the cold.
By replacing tyres, they are able to grip the road more effectively, thus reducing the potential for breakdown.
Earlier this year, TyreSafe advised people to check the tread on their tyres to improve road safety among motorists.
