As part of The Club's ongoing commitment to enhance the natural environment on and around Club Sites, a programme of initiatives was implemented at the beginning of 2006 to help Members and Wardens get more out of the nature that surrounds them. 2008 is year three of our continuing programme to implement these initiatives across the diverse site network and sees 38 sites designated as Boosting Biodiversity sites.

What can you expect on Boosting Biodiversity sites?
- A large map on a central notice board detailing flora and fauna known to live on site.
- Wardens adopting practices such as leaving areas of unmown grass in order to encourage insects, wild flowers and grasses to flourish.
- A nature trail checklist so you can tick off the species you have spotted. By completing the checklists you will be helping to sustain the environment for our native British species and plenty of visiting wildlife too. Don't forget to hand them back to the wardens so we can track the species making use of the natural habitat on our sites.
- Download the checklist for the site you want to visit before you go so you will know what to expect.
- Drawing/painting competition - the checklist includes a competition for children (up to 16 years) in four different age groups, with prizes awarded at the end of the year.
Biodiversity walks
Why not join David Chapman, the Magazine's regular wildlife contributor on nature walks from sites in 2008 - he'll point out interesting flora and fauna along the way. All the walks start at 10am and they are FREE!
