The Audi shouts quality wherever you look and it’s superbly engineered. Like the Volvo, it has a sweet engine and lovely six-speed gearbox but it lost marks because the hill start was a bit scrabbly and it is not such an efficient load carrier as the V70; it took three-quarters of our ‘typical load’ with all seats in use, whereas the Volvo took it all.
The push-button parking brake boosts driver confidence on hill stops once you get used to it. Ride and handling were exemplary.
