Six cylinders in line, three litres, driving the rear wheels through a six-speed gearbox. Sounds like it should shift a caravan with ease – and it does. Powerful brakes, too, and a conventional handbrake that held the outfit rock steady on our hills.
Sports suspension is hard and the BMW’s ride left a bit to be desired at times. Noseweight limit is 90kg. The BMW lost points for being the most expensive in our ‘basket of running costs’ but gained points and a great deal of interest with its intriguing head-up instrument display.
