This car won the 'Cars under £13,500' class in 2006.
A five-door hatchback with air conditioning, remote locking, CD player, electric windows and a new 1.5-litre common-rail diesel engine. How does it tow? Just fine. Maximum torque comes in at just 2000rpm, and decent gearing means it gets away on the hill and there’s not too much changing between the five gears once you are on the move.
The parking brake could be a little better, said our driving judges, but the Cerato goes well, stops well and no one reported any instability. Load space isn’t great and you need to keep to a noseweight limit of just 56kg; but if you are looking for a brand-new car to tow a caravan up to about 1200kg all-up, you won’t get better than this for the money.
