You can only write as you find, and my marks for Mitsubishi’s new 4x4 were out of kilter with some other judges’. I gave the automatic-transmission Outlander high marks for stability, acceleration and hillstarting – though I suspect hillstarts would have been more laboured if the Outlander had been available with manual transmission.
If Mitsubishi’s figures are to be believed, maximum torque doesn’t come in until 4000rpm. Loadwise, the car swallowed three-quarters of our load without sacrificing any of the seats.
