The smaller-engined Pathfinder in this year’s competition seemed lethargic, but this seven-seater is heavy at 2,267kg kerbweight. It gets there in the end, and the six-speed manual transmission is flexible enough for you to make good use of the upper ratios.
I found the Pathfinder controlled any trailer movement when the caravan was caught out by crosswinds, and the handbrake held well on our 14% hill. Restarting was not a problem, though take-off up the hill was slow.
