With V6 4.0-litre petrol engine and five-speed automatic transmission, the Pathfinder is a brisk performer. Gearbox ratios are well sorted and my main criticism was the choppy ride on rough surfaces. The conventional handbrake has a nice action and hill starts were easy. This is one case where it does pay to go for the bigger engine option.
