Renault needs to get its act together. Failing to supply any technical data about the Laguna and not connecting the electrics is one thing, but there’s a bigger problem for caravanners: according to its handbooks, if you have more than one person in your car the towing limit drops to 1000kg. That’s unreasonable. It sounds like a figure someone has plucked out of the air, but if there’s a technical reason we need to know what it is.
Having got that off my chest, with ballast to simulate just one passenger and 1152kg of caravan on the back, the Laguna shone. It handles beautifully, it’s fast and it has Renault’s clever push-button handbrake that releases itself. Loads of room for caravanning kit, too.
