Second in its class, the Ibiza has got plenty of go and has a nice combination of engine and gearbox. Third gear was usable all the way up our long 14% gradient. There was just a hint of swaying on the test track but not until I’d got above the UK speed limit; and just a little scrabbling from the front wheels when I took off on the 17% hill.
A nicely put-together car with lots to recommend it for couples and families with a small caravan, but loadspace is limited unless you lower the rear seats – and the noseweight limit is only 50kg.
