Third in class, the Zafira put up a good performance all round. It feels taut and it’s a comfortable car to drive, with a torquey engine and a gearbox in which all six ratios are usable. Hill starting was easy, though everyone had something to say about the handbrake: so-so performance and a peculiar design that traps your fingers if you aren’t careful.
Whether or not you consider the Zafira a good car in terms of its ‘caravanability’ will depend on the size of your family. With all seats in use it suffers from the usual MPV problem – lack of luggage space.
