  • Audi

    No. of reviews: 2

    Audi is no regular to the competition but they did submit an entry for the 2009 awards with their Audi A4 Avant 2.0 TDI SE. In the past they have scooped Towcar of the Year in 1999 with the A6 as well as three class wins in the 1990s. See what the judges thought in the two reviews here.

  • BMW

    No. of reviews: 4

    Only four entries from BMW to look at. The vehicles in question have done well, however, with the 330d scooping two titles in 2004 and the 525d bagging a class prize in 2005. A prestige marque that the judges seem to like.

  • Chrysler

    No. of reviews: 2

    Chrysler is another marque that is not a regular entrant to the awards. The only notable achievement for them is a class win with the Neon 1997. See what the judges think of the two Chryslers reviewed here.

  • Citroën

    Citroën took The Club's first ever Towcar of the Year award back in 1984 and have fared pretty well ever since. They won all but three of the twelve Diesel Towcar of the Year awards and, including this years 2009 under £16,000 category win, they have sixteen class wins to their name.

  • Daihatsu

    A relatively new entrant to the awards, Daihatsu have only had two cars reviewed over the last four years. See what the judges thought after driving them around Millbrook Proving Ground.

    Only two Dodge entries so far at the awards, the Nitro in 2008 and this years Dodge Journey 2.0 CRD SXT. See what the judges thought of these as towcars.

    Only three tests to look at from Fiat from the last four years. Fiat have never managed to bag the top prize at the awards but they have had some succes in the class categories - most recently with the Sedici in 2007.

    Ford is a well known, well liked brand with many motorists and has had reasonable success at the awards - most notably in 2008 where it took Towcar of the Year with the Titanium X Estate and a class win with the Mondeo Zetec.

    Jaguar have only made two entries in the last few awards, both of which were in 2005. The X-type and S-type are both nice looking cars but do they cut it as towcars.

    Well known for their big, strong 4x4s, Jeep commandeer a large portion of their market. There's no shortage of the big Jeeps here either with eight to look at - surprisingly though, no winners even though the judges seem to like them.

    Kia only began entering the awards a few years back but have won prolifically since then. They won the 'AWD over 1800kg' for three consecutive years, Towcar of the Year with the Sorento and had class wins with the Cerato and Rio - that's quite a towcar resume!

    Land Rover are well known for their rugged, go any where four wheel drives and many people like them as towcars. With five models reviewed, one of which was a 2008 class winner, you can find out what the team think of them.

    Winning Towcar of the Year with the Mazda6 2.0-D Estate TS2 in 2005 was a great achievement for Mazda. This and a class win in 2007 have proved Mazda to be serious contenders in the towcar market.

  • Mitsubishi

    With a raft of wins in the early 1990s, including Diesel Towcar of the Year, Mitsubishi are proven towcar manufacturers. With an interesting mix of small and large 4x4 vehicles, they are a manufacturer worth considering.

  • Nissan

    Known for their chunky, powerful pick-up type vehicles, Nissan are regular entrants to the awards. Almost every vehicle reviewed here is a 4x4 or pick-up sized vehicle and many are bound to favour them for a towcar. Notably though, they haven't picked up a trophy since 1993.

    Peugeot have two Towcar of the Year awards with the Peugeot 406 under their belt (1997 and 2002), and here are five reviews since 2005 to take a look at.

    Renault have faired pretty well in the Towcar awards over the years. They have a couple of overall wins (1987 and 1995) and a handful of class wins. Their most recent success was with the Grand Espace, taking the MPV class title in both 2004 and 2005.

    Only four entries from Seat since 2005 - one of them did take the Midi MPV title in 2005 though. They also had a Towcar of the Year win in 2005 with the Toledo V5 and a couple of class wins.

    Škoda have managed to shed their image of poor quality vehicles and are now renowned for quality and value for money. With this years 2009 overall win, an overall win in 2003 and six class wins since 2002, they are becoming very strong competition.

    Although Subaru have only entered a handful of vehicles to the awards, they have a pretty impressive record. The Forester won Towcar of the Year in 2004, as well as its class that year and in 2005, and the Impreza won its class in 2007 and the AWD under 1800kg. They also scooped various class titles in 1998, 2002 and 2006.

  • Toyota

    No. of reviews: 8

    Toyota only have a couple of notable wins in recent years, the Corolla won its class in 2004 and 2005 and the Rav4 did the same in 2003. Aside from this, Toyota vehicles ranked highly in their groups and judges often commented on their impressive stability.

  • Vauxhall

    A well known brand, Vauxhall has managed to revamp its vehicles and its own image of late. It has always done well in the awards too; with five overall wins and nineteen class wins to its name, Vauxhall is a mark well worth consideration.

    VW is a regular entrant to the awards and is a known and trusted brand to many motorists. It has done fairly well in the awards as well, winning another class win for 2009 with the Tiguan, which totals 10 class wins and one overall win in recent years.

    Volvo is well known for its safety and reliability amongst motorists. Add to that three Towcar of the Year wins and a handful of class awards and you have a fairly likely towcar purchase for any caravanner. See if the judges agree!
