This photograph features a Car Cruiser double saloon 4 caravan named ‘Iduskian’ owned by Club members the Nelson family of County Down, Northern Ireland. Here, the family is pitched at The Caravan Club approved site of Exeat Farm during a caravan tour of England in 1937.

Disembarking from a ferry in France is the caravan ‘Who Cares’, owned by Caravan Club members, The Lee family. A caravan tour was then taken through war-torn Belgium to reach Holland.

The caravan ‘Who Cares’ is towed by a Standard Vanguard II. Taken at the by-pass of Alenquer, near Lisbon in Portugal during a European caravan tour. The outfit was owned by Club members, the Lee family who were keen European tourers.

The Caravan Club first introduced the Sites Directory and Handbook in 1936. Originally this publication included a list of recommended sites by location, a map to find the sites and a list of members’ caravan names. From left to right, 1936, 1939 and 1957 editions.

Caravan Club log books were produced for a short period in the 1930s before the outbreak of World War Two. The aim of the log book was to chart the different pitches visited through information and photographs. An inventory was also included for members to list the equipment in the caravan. These pages are taken from a log of a British tour enjoyed by Caravan Club members in 1937.

From 1960 onwards The Club has produced road maps of Britain featuring Club Sites. Before this time maps were often included as part of the Sites Directory and Handbook.

Possibly produced for visitors to the Caravan Harbour Site during the Festival of Britain in 1951, this rare pennant commemorates The Club’s first ‘official’ site.
