A good choice for those who enjoy solitary tranquillity, at Dunnet Bay Caravan Club Site you can admire the stunning views over clean washed sands to lovely Dunnet Head, the northernmost point of the British mainland. Located in Dunnet, Thurso, the caravan park is in an area of vast natural beauty - it's a perfect location to unwind from the bustle of day to day life.

Dunnet Bay Caravan Club Site is ideal for walking expeditions and offers great nearby dog walking too. If you climb Dunnet Head you will be treated to magnificent views over the Pentland Firth to Orkney and a great part of the north coast to Ben Loyal and Ben Hope. To take in local restaurants as well as some retail therapy, a day trip over to Orkney from John O'Groats or Scrabster won't disappoint, in fact you can island-hop the string of islands by both boat and coach. If you're a keen birdwatcher, you can take a ferry trip around the Stacks of Duncansby to see a wealth of seabird life. Anglers are spoilt for choice with sea fishing by boat from Scrabster, fishing from the beach or freshwater fishing nearby. Sites of historic interest include the majestic Castle Mey and Mary Anne's Cottage, a museum detailing crofting life.

Tent camping

Dunnet Bay Caravan Club Site welcomes tent campers and has tent pitches available to both members and non-members. Pitches can be booked online or by phone - To do this and to find out further tent camping information, take a look at the Dunnet Bay tent camping page...

Good for visiting John O' Groats & Dunnet Head

4 out of 5

Site nicely situated backing onto beach. Grass pitches. Reception closed on arrival with limited opening times - not sure why? So your left to pitch up & book in when open. Toilet block cramped. Walked along beach nice in most parts but some parts covered in a crusty topped layer purple underneath carpet of something?. Rather a smelly walk into Dunnet village past what must be an open drain? Worth visiting John O' Groats & Dunnet Head with its lighthouse. Nice views of The Orkneys.

A site for the north of Scotland

4 out of 5

A wonderful sandy bay for walking and an ideal site for visiting east of Thurso. The wardens are most welcoming and helpful. The site suffers by being very exposed and close to the main road, though this was not a problem in May. There are only grass pitches, which might be a problem for heavy motor homes during wet and windy weather, which can be the case in this part of Scotland.

Fantastic location

We stayed here for one night last week as a stopover on our North Coast 500 trip.   It is a stunning location and Fizz loved the beach! The facilities were spotless and the pitch well kept. My only negative was that you needed a key for the toilets (I understand the reasons why they are locked).  This can only be collected from reception once you have checked in.  However, as the reception only opens between 4 - 6pm we were left without being able to go to the loo when we arrived at 3pm! Fine if you have a loo onboard but we are in a camper van with no such luxuries! Something to keep in mind if you arrive before reception opens.

We stayed last year & there are well signposted public toilets in the car park right beside the site. Unless of course Highland Council has closed them due to the service cuts.
