Description

Bolton Abbey Caravan Club Site (formerly Strid Wood) is one of the prettiest locations on the network - it is part of the Bolton Abbey estate and located in an open glade surrounded by woodland and the glorious Yorkshire Dales. Within the boundaries of the estate are some 75 miles of footpaths through moors, woods and farmlands, all easily accessible from the caravan site. The ruins of the 12th century Bolton Priory stand on a placid curve of the River Wharf and have been painted by Turner and Landseer as well as earning praise from Wordsworth.

Skipton is a mere 8½ miles away from the Bolton Abbey Caravan Club Site (formerly Strid Wood) and is an historic town with traditional cobbled streets and a picturesque canal to wander along. There is also a regular street market and well preserved medieval fortress, which are a must for visitors to the caravan park. Skipton also serves as the starting point for one of England's most beautiful train journeys - the Settle to Carlisle line.

Great Site

Great site. Only observation is that the wi-fi connection is very slow. I have also experienced this at another site. For the charges made this is not acceptable.

peaceful weekend 17/5-19/5/2013

This was the first time at this site and we would definitely come back bit hair raising coming through the arch at Bolton abbey but it was fine the site was the usual high standards you expect from the club .The wardens were very friendly and helpful .the site was nearly full when we were there but it was very quiet and peaceful a lot to do out and about and it is only 1 hour away from York .Hope to be back before the end of the season.

Beautiful Site

We stayed here for a weekend in May and even though the site was fully booked, the pitch left for was us was still a fantastic spot. The site is in a lovely peaceful location and if you like wildlife ( birds especially ) this is a site you must visit. The pitch size was fine and the facilities were also up to the usual caravan club standards. It was a little hair raising coming through the bolton abbey 'arch' but it added to the fun of the approach! We also did the Settle to Carlisle train journey on a rainy day and was well worth it, fantastic views! All in all a lovely site in a fantastic location. Only wish we could have stopped longer! Definately will be back!

Peace and quiet

a real nice site only one pitch left by night time which goes to show how popular it is even at this time of year. Quiet (except for wild life especially Dawn chorus) clean and nicely run site. May not be for the younger family members as most of the attraction is great walks around Abbey and woodland/hill walks. not to far to from towns and most amenities if required. would like to have stayed longer

Beautiful site

Only spent one night here on 16 May on our way home but a perfect site, so peaceful. Saw a nuthatch on the floor by the toilet block and must have been at least four owls calling to each other as we had our last walk round. Ideal site for watching the birds. A definite one to come back to. Was going to call in at Bolton Abbey itself on our way out on Friday but at £9 it was a bit steep for us, next time will walk along the Strid from the site.

walks paradise

Bolton abbey site is excellent for walkers, bird watchers, fishing and even cyclists. The site I think is well positioned and only a short drive to shops, pubs etc. And a few mins walk from the river bank. We have covered most walks in this area apart from sections of the estates moors because of the grouse breeding which is out of bounds for dog’s .Not even if keep on a lead. An O/S map is a must. If you don’t want to use the car there’s a bus route to most local towns right on your door step. Tea rooms just at the site entrance and a 40 mins walk to the Bolton abbey tea rooms. A good half way stop off point for a brew/picnic alongside the river. All in all a very peaceful and green site full of wild life especially the wood pecker and cuckoo at day break a good alarm clock. Pick your pitch well because of the shade from the trees but you should get sun at some point in the day. Midges could be an issue in the coming months. Hope this helps.

Peace & Quiet

Just arrived home from my third visit to this site & have had another wonderful weekend there. The site is lovely & clean & in a superb location. Despite the confused weather we have had, rain, wind, sun, hail!! we got out for a fantastic walk through Strid wood where there are a number of different walks mapped out for you to choose from. We tend not to eat out too much but we did treat ourselves to a very nice cooked breakfast at the Abbey tea rooms that my son highly recommends! We will be back again very soon.
