Description

Thetford Forest Caravan Club Site (formerly The Covert) is set in luscious Forestry Commission woodland. Quiet and secluded, the caravan park offers pitching areas in little open glades and tempting trails for exploring the natural charms of the surrounding area. Within the forest there is a memorial area to the Desert Rats, giving the visitors a flavour of life during the Second World War.

Within a short distance from Thetford Forest Caravan Club Site (formerly The Covert) you will discover the market town of Swaffham. Steeped in Georgian history, the town also has a fine Saturday market for some leisurely retail therapy. It is also known for being the birthplace of Howard Carter, discoverer of Tutankhamun's tomb, and there is an extensive exhibition about him in the local history museum located above the town hall. Both King's Lynn and Norwich have other historical centres of note, and are within easy driving distance of the caravan park. Another excellent day excursion would be the beautiful Norfolk coastline with its many charming villages.

Enjoying the Covert

I would say we really enjoyed a long weekend here, the weather was fantastic, the site was impeccable clean and well maintained and the wardens were very polite and helpful. The fact the wifi wasn't working, in my opinion was a bonus as it meant it was possible to get away from technology for a while and enjoy the forest and nature. There's a great opportunity for cycling and walking and is suitable for the whole family.

Peace and Quiet

Thetford Forest is an extremely quiet site, surrounded by pine forests with endless walks. The wardens were extremely friendly and helpful. The site is situated about 800 metres from the A1065, there was no audible noise from this busy road, just the tranquil noise of the forest and the views of the roaming deer.

Great Place

We stayed here 29/4/13 to 3/5/13 still a great place, the wardens this year are really great and very helpful, we stay here about 4 times a year as its only 30 miles from where we live, its so peaceful, and lovely walks from the site, Went into Thetford which is not far away also Swaffham which is a bit run down now, mostly Charity shops, however there is a good butchers shop (sorry cant remember the name but its on the right hand side as you go in ) Great weather was really hot hate to say it but I was glad of the shade from the trees !!!! HAPPY CARRAVANNING 2013. ( PLEASE KEEP THIS SITE OPEN ALL YEAR SO MANY OF US NOW CARAVAN ALL YEAR )

Great for First Timers

Very first stay anywhere in our newly acquired motorhome. Explained this on arrival & the help offered was really useful & supportive. Felt really comfortable asking questions & couldn't have been more helpful. Our stay was littered with the usual "learner" experiences like overflowing toilets & incorrect hook ups - but we had fun!!! ...and intend coming back for more. Our dogs loved the nearby woods & the peacefulness of the site was really appreciated. Although I have little other experiences to measure this against I would really recommend both the site & its wardens to anyone. If our experience here is replicated on future stays at other sites we look firward to the fun ahead

Spring visit

Great site if you like us love peace and quiet in a good location for walking or cycling. Saturday market at Swaffam is close by and well worth a visit as is the National Trust Oxburgh Hall. Wardens were very welcoming and helpful, sadly the motorhome services did not fit the description. The "grey" emptying point was in the centre of the bay and therefore not suitable for our van. Otherwise a great stay and looking forward to visiting again.

Our first trip this year

This Thetford Forest site is only an hour away from our home and so for the past three years we have made this our first outing with the caravan whilst we check everything out. The site is quiet and peaceful with lovely pitches in woodland glades - and has significant WW2 history to add extra interest. The wardens are lovely, welcoming and helpful, and there are many walks and places of interest in the area. Birds and wildlife in abundance. We love this place!
