Sunday departures on Club Sites.

Do any other members feel as we do that those of us who work full time are disadvantaged at weekends by the mid-day departure rule on Sundays?

We are not able to arrive on site until mid evening on Friday and then, increasingly often it seems, have to get up and leave on Sunday morning, reducing our weekends to one day only.

We would like to suggest that the arrival/departure time on Sundays be changed to 4pm, allowing us to enjoy our day and not massively putting those people arriving on Sunday at a disadvantage assuming that they are generally going to be the retired amongst us. Fees could be amended if necessary to keep things fair by making Saturday night dearer and Sunday night cheaper.

This is one of the things that puts us off going out for weekends - basically, there is not enough time.  On the few occasions we have the opportunity to get away weekends, against my wife and daughter are back and we've got the van out etc., even only going somewhere local can mean we are tight to arrive by 8pm.  Then against everything is sorted out, it's about time for bed.  Saturday is the only day really, then on Saturday evening you need to start to think about packing up to get off the site by midday the next day.

To be fair, most CC sites we have found are very flexible about allowing units to stay late on Sundays, if they are able to do so, mainly because they are quieter in the week, but, of course, there is no guarantee.  We have never found it a real issue, I have to say.

We've ghenerally moved away from the idea of going away weekends.  As we are only effectively only 'on holiday' for the Saturday, I find it easier just to go ouy

t for the day from home on a Saturday.

The only weekends we now do, are the long ones: i.e. Mayday B.H. Weekend and August B.H. Weekend.  Spring B.H. is part of the half term week so we usually go on the Sunday until Fri or Sat.

I didn't really make it clear above.  Basically, even if it were possible to extend leaving time to 4pm, it wouldn't really encourage us to go out for more weekends.  That's not the big issue for us - and most sites would allow you to stay until 4pm anyway, in our experience.

We have ususually found the wardens onsites very accommodating with late departures on Sundays, allowing us to leave at 3pm.

This gives us chance to do something in the morning, have lunch and then pack up.

We've done this on several sites and whilst it's never guaranteed we've never had a problem with it.

Last year we had to leave by mid-day on several occaisons, especially on sites were the access road is difficult for passing. Yes, wardens can be accomodating but you rarely know until Sunday morning if you are going to have to leave or not and therefore cannot plan your day or have a lie in!

We used to ask the wardens if we could stay on late on sundays, but often they would say only till 12 ot 1pm as they had new arrivals coming in and if you were on a prime pitch e.g sunny spot it was a no.

So now we  just book the sunday night aswell and leave whenever we want, That way were happy and can relax and enjoy the full weekend and don't have the worry of being home to soon.

and it is for this reason I don't see why there should be a change. You have to draw the line somewhere if it is a busy site or there are access problems, I think departure by 12 noon is perfectly reasonable. If you want longer weekends away you can always try rallying with your local centre. Departure times on rallies are not quite so rigid and can be as late a 6p.m.!.

If I have driven most of the morning to a site I do not want to hang around waiting for a pitch.

I agree with what you are saying lesandang. Both my husband and I work fulltime but still enjoy our weekends away. Whilst I accept that wardens are mainly accomodating, even they cannot guarantee that you are able to stay. I would think that outside of the main school holidays some kind of system could be set up via the booking to moniter it and make it work for both people leaving and those arriving.

For example, when we book a site online we are usually asked what time we will arrive and the leave time is non-negotiable but if this could be utilised and those that want to stay a while longer can select a leave time, then I'm sure the computer could work out the logistics of it! and basically if there is going to be space available then have the option to select a later time and if it costs say a few pounds more for hire of electric then so be it.

Maybe try it out on a few pilot sites to see if it could work and assess any feedback.

We only tend to go away for weekends when there is a bank holiday to get that extra time, a friend does the same as Vantay and books the sunday night, but these days you can't always afford to, and if you leave early will you now be penalised for it under the new regulations this year?
