Join The Caravan Club

So why did you join the Club?

I honestly cannot remember how or why I came to join the Caravan Club or even how I became aware such a club existed.  I had no caravanning friends to entice me to do the same and neither had any of my family ever owned a caravan. However, I was an avid reader of outdoor life magazines before we bought our first caravan and I can only surmise it was through an advert in one of these that I was prompted to do so.

My motivation for buying a caravan whilst having the objective of the desire to travel is unlikely to have been similar to the majority of owners. I had longingly looked at caravans some years earlier but they did not really lend themselves to our lifestyle until much later in life. For us, joining the Caravan Club must have been a natural thing to do because we  must have joined almost if not before we acquired a caravan because strange as it may seem to many, our first outing, shortly after Easter 1989, was to a centre rally only 6 miles from home. This was quickly followed by a trip to Lincoln Park Farm and then another rally and we were hooked. We have been members ever since.

So why did you join the Caravan Club?

Because my mum suggested it!  Strangely, at the time I only planned to use my caravan for agility competitions, and had no intention of using actual campsites!

Turns out now, having given up agility, I nearly always stay on club sites or CL's.

We originally had a tent and were in the C&CC. When we upgraded to a caravan we stayed with them although my parents were in the CC. We joined the CC when the children wanted to go to Blackpool and the club had just opened the site there. We actualy stopped at a club site as we passed it and joined there. Not sure if the wardens are on commission but they were very keen to sign us up.

Because it's there !!

Seriously though. we were very lucky. My parents had been members since 1964 and had always enjoyed the Magazine 'En Route'  and the Sites . So as my Brother, then my Sister and then me bought caravans, my Dad bought us our CC Membership. and for many many years he renewed it for each of us as a Christmas present. S o each year he paid for four members.

Thanks Dad, sadly no longer with us, but still struggling with the Awning somewhere and taking it down a day early if it is dry !!

Joined when we booked to go with friends from Polesworth Abbey to Moreton-in-Marsh, MayDay weekend 1993.  We still go away every MayDay Weekend and August BH with the same group of people.  This year will be our 20th year - 10 units going to Conkers C&CC Site.

I enjoyed visiting family members who were caravanning at Incleboro Fields(Cromer)  and Broadlands (Ludham)- after some years as a carer and therefore unable to travel much, when freed from that task through bereavement,  I decided to go visiting places around the UK, and to take up caravanning, and was recommended to join the CC - that was back in 2007 - I think the CC has the best sites, so will keep on using mostly CC main sites each year.

After deciding to do the 'staycatation' thing, I wanted to do it right from the start so I  joined the caravan club hoping to find a places in the UK to enjoy and explore. I wanted a central point where you can get good solid advice and help from people who know what they are talking about. I wanted good quality sited with great locations.  I like meeting other caravanners and sharing experience and helping other if needed. And so far so good.

Keep up the good work CC
