member Janner, one green star [Online] Posted 11 May 2012 by Janner Quote | Report Thanks Ian, following more research I have discovered that rear view cameras are not continuously rated and legally must be connected to the reversing light circuit. This is not what I had in mind so I have abandoned the whole idea, pity. Post liked!

Never come across your legal argument? Most LGV' s and buses have rear view on all the time. I Find it very useful, especially in overtaking Post liked!

member Rod10, Caravanner three green stars [Online] Posted 14 May 2012 by Rod10 Quote | Report I use a completely wireless system - and I mean FULLY wireless, i.e. no wired connections to either the car or the van's electrics. The camera unit is rechargeable, completely wireless, with night vision and is magnetic and/or suction-cup mounted, meaning it can be used for hitching up or stuck to the back of the van when driving. The colour monitor is also rechargeable, completely wireless and can record the journey via an optional SD card! I find it is more useful for hitching up than it is for driving becasue I only get a couple of hours use per charge. However, you can connect it via it's 12v cigarette lead if you want constant use on the road. I think it cost me about £140 about 3 years ago but it is well worth the money and hitching up is now always a totally stress-free event... Post liked!

member Rod10, Caravanner three green stars [Online] Posted 14 May 2012 by Rod10 Quote | Report I bought it online from 4ucam and mine is the 3.5 inch monitor, coming in at about £125 today. It was sent from USA with a UK plug and only took a week from purchase to delivery. Look for the rechargeable ones only. Forgot to say it auto-reverses the image so it works exactly like a mirror (difficult to explain but without this feature, the images would appear on the wrong side, right-to-left) so it is completely intuitive to use and hitching up really is a breeze now - everytime! Don't be fooled by the number-plate-mounted cameras that are advertised as "wireless" because whilst the AV signal is indeed wireless, you still need to hard-wire the camera into your car's electrics to power it. My system is, as you'll see on the website, totally wireless and rechargeable. Post liked!

Which model did you buy - have you had any problems with signal from the back of the van. That seems to be the problem with many rear view cameras - the radio range is rather short. Your camera sounds great. AABrew Post liked!
