Where do you keep your caravan ?

Years ago when I was in the RAF, service personnel who were caravanners could often keep their vans on base in one of the spare hangars! The main problem was pigeons messing on them (hope this is sufficiently polite to avoid the censors).

I was staying at an excellent private site near the north Norfolk coast last month, developed from part of a farm, and the owners offered undercover storage in a large barn on their farm at a reasonable rate, even towing your van into storage and out onto a pitch on their site when you wanted. They did charge for 'retrieval' if you wanted to tow your caravan on a trip somewhere else, which is understandable. I've got no idea of how good their storage was- the thread on Club Together which warned about vermin rather alarmed me.

Our deeds on our 8 year old house state no caravans but they also state only one car for houses with a single garage and no trade vans so a lot of people breaking the rules.

I prepared an area at the side for the caravan and put a six foot high fence around it before we brought the van home so the van is nearly hidden.

The first time we brought it home it was parked on my road at the front of the house and my neighbour came and asked if we needed a hand to get it in and then watched in amazement as the mover parked it.

The area has an EHU and water so we can connect up and the caravan door lines up with the utility room door so we can step out the house and into the van without touching the drive.

Our van is stored on a Cassoa gold storage site. It has cctv, electronic barrier with fob and heavy metal gates which are kept padlocked when the site office isn't open. Security guards patrol the site regularly at night too.

There is  a tap for water to wash the van and i use that "washmatik" brush and hose system which is excellent.

The storage is £250 a year which i think is great value. Bugs, i wonder if we're in the same place? lol

Yours sounds great JohnG. We are on the west of the county so Carlisle is our nearest CaSSOA gold location. I have just moved to a new one at £300 pa which at least gives me 24/7 access without appointment. The previous site was like Fort Knox at £365 pa but only open for access at weekends between 10 and 5. 24 hour notice appointments required during the week which just did not work for us as we are retired and want to have full flexibility. Looking forward to greater freedom this year and being able to do those little jobs when I want to.

It is a great site truck.....it also has a waiting list as long as your arm! I forgot to mention it does have 24 hour access too, as well as an accessory shop and service bay too.

Wheni was looking for storage, i checked out several other sites, one of which was charging the same money and had no security at all. Two caravans were stolen from that site about six months or so ago and neither have been recovered.

Luckily enough we have enough room to park our van alongside the house..with ample room around it..always park it front across the garage...Got hitch lock and wheel clamp always fitted...I take the jockey wheel off as well to make things a little bit harder for anyone thinking of stealing the van...also its always connected to the mains electric so would mean they would have to cut through a live cable...The van acts as a spare bedroom and also when not away Ive been known to take my afternoon naps in it...lol...Been thinking of having a gate across the back of the van which would hide it from view...Bryan

I store mine at a Gold Cassoa site about 10 miles from home on the outskirts of Aberdeen. Just got the renewal yesterday for this year and it costs £170.00 for the year. Excellent value for money and also very secure.
