This car was overall winner of The Caravan Club Towcar
of theYear 2011 and class winner of the £25,000 - £32,000
class.
Steps off the line with vigour, its light, forgiving clutch
smoothing any driver bungling to let the gearshift snick through
its gate at the flick of a finger. Before you know it, 70mph. Is
that a caravan? Oh yes, we're towing aren't we. Better try an
emergency stop. A bit of commotion from the ABS, but halted far
short of the anticipated point.
Up steep hills and down steep dales the car never gives cause
for concern - it goes where it's aimed and obediently stays there.
Agile, fun, satisfying. Practical even, with all that loadspace.
It's even got a conventional handbrake that works, though a spot of
considered clutch/throttle balance was needed for clean hill
starts. Well, even the top dog is allowed one small misdemeanor.
Superb!
Caravanability
Top marks here for excellent loadcarrying capabilities, a
generous 80kg noseweight limit and the promise of attractively-low
running costs. The test car came with a 7-pin socket, though -
isn't it about time all cars came with a 13-pinner as standard?
