The National Rally in 2010 will be held in the grounds of Weston
Park, near Shifnal in Shropshire over the late Spring Bank Holiday
from 28 May to 1st June.
Weston Park is a remarkable house set in 1,000 acres of parkland
and is located on the A5 at Weston-under-Lizard, only 30 minutes
from Central Birmingham and just 3 miles off the M54 and 8 miles
from the M6.
The Estate was mentioned in the Domesday Book and the main
survivor of that period in history is the Medieval Deer Park.
The house itself originates from 17th Century when in 1651
Elizabeth Mytton married Thomas Wilbraham and began to build her
vision.
Elizabeth was a very talented and determined woman and appears
to have been her own architect with plans she drew up with the help
of Palladio's First Book of Architecture. Her heavily
annotated copy of the book is still in the library at Weston.
The house is open to the public and friendly guides are only too
happy to relate the history of the house and its occupants over the
centuries. The curator has also devised a behind the scene
tour that uncovers some of the lesser known facts and places within
the building. The grounds themselves also have an interesting
history. Landscaped by Capability Brown in the mid 1760's the
development of the estate into the glorious rolling parkland of
today will captivate those keen gardeners among us.
For the young and adventurous Weston provides a wonderland to be
explored. There is a miniature railway and superb woodland
adventure playground. The wide open spaces of the safe
parklands offer children the opportunity to experience the joys of
the countryside and the deer park is always a firm favourite.
