Meet the Team - November 2011

This month we introduce you to Wayne Brown, Sites Facilities Manager.

Wayne Brown - Sites Facilities Manager

Wayne Brown

What's your role at The Club?

I am Site Facilities Manager which sounds like a very grand job title. What it actually means is I am responsible for all the site facilities that are on a number of Caravan Club Sites - swimming pools, shops, bars, restaurants and the 17 holiday cottages the Club owns. I work as part of the Regional Managers' and Sites Operations' teams. I am also part of the Health and Safety Forum.

Which Club site is your favourite, and why?

Grafham Water, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire is a firm favourite and I regularly pay site visits to check the swimming pool and the Holiday cottage. It has a fantastic character, small enough to have a friendly atmosphere. There is the resident owl and if you hoot at it, it will come down from its roost to check you out and hoot back at you.

Have you ever been on a caravanning holiday?

My family now have a 5 berth Bailey Scorpio that is nearly 20 years old. I bought it on eBay about two years ago and after a good scrub up and some minor repairs inside, have enjoyed many holidays with my family.

Prior to the caravan we had another eBay purchase of a Conway Crusader folding camper (always bargains to be had). We don't tow far, mainly Cornwall where we enjoy the beaches, cycling and cliff walking. Many of our friends have caravans too and our children have all grown up together enjoying caravan holidays en mass, almost creating our own rally -  no TV, computers or mobile phones allowed, just lots of fresh air, swimming, activities and bar-b-ques.

Getting out and about is core to caravanning, what Winter activities do you enjoy?

A visit to the Caravan and Motorhome Show at the NEC Birmingham in October is always a must. It gives me the chance to catch up on new products and caravans on show. We can all dream! At home my wife encourages me to help with the autumnal gardening jobs. I always seem to end up having to trim the hedges hard back for the winter and take all the debris to the local tip for composting. I do this under sufferance though and can't say I enjoy it.

What sporting activity do you like to participate in (or watch) and why?

If you have ever met me, you will know that sporting activities are not top of my list. I do however enjoy cheering on my 17 year old son Adam who plays for Paignton Colts. He plays second row or flanker and I provide the taxi service to games and cheer on the whole team throughout. I have been up early over recent weeks watching the Rugby World Cup and cheering on all the British Teams.

And lastly...

At this time of year, Hillhead Caravan Club Site near Brixham, Devon and Seacroft Caravan Club Site near Cromer in Norfolk, are preparing the activities for the Christmas and New Year festivities. Both sites are open over the festive time and offer a 7 course Christmas Day Lunch with full entertainment and a visit from Father Christmas.

New Year's Eve is also a popular time. A full entertainment programme and a Buffet meal are on offer at both sites. Tickets for these events are available now, please telephone Hillhead or Seacroft reception offices for more information or email seacroft@caravanclub.co.uk or hillhead@caravanclub.co.uk and a booking form and details will be sent to you.
