Be keen about going green

With green issues at the forefront of many a politician's
agenda, now is perhaps the time for caravanners to take a step back
to work out how they can do their bit for the environment.
Making simple changes to driving habits can do just the trick -
avoid harsh acceleration and braking and it could be more than just
the environment you are saving.
Motoring experts believe that making slight adjustments to the
way we drive can help reduce the running costs of a vehicle. Just
think, being a bit softer on the pedals could mean one less trip to
the garage or claim on the car insurance!
The environment is never far from the headlines, so it would be
easy to think that we Brits are getting good at being eco-savvy.
However, the results of a recent Europcar survey suggest not.
It found that 45 per cent of Brits have changed the way they
drive in a bid to be more eco-friendly, compared to 54 per cent of
their European counterparts. This leaves us with some serious
catching up to do.
Catriona Lougher, the firm's marketing director, said: "It seems
that whilst the average householder is doing their bit by
recycling, changing to low-voltage light bulbs and turning down the
thermostat - when it comes to the car, keeping that green message
front of mind is more of a challenge."
Still, it's not too late to make a new year's resolution, so why
not think before you drive and help both the environment and your
pockets in 2010?
