Home Sweet Home from Home

Your 'van is your home from home, and as most of us have gardens
and houseplants at home, why shouldn't you have the same when on
holiday?
- Give your favourite plant a holiday too. Pick something
relatively small, not too fragile, and not too fussy about
temperature changes.
- Fake it. Some artificial plants are fantastic, but good ones
are pricy. Even a couple of colourful flowers in a vase can look
really good, though - go for quality not quantity!
- Dried flowers or plants can look great, especially in autumn
and winter. Compact displays can be quite robust - avoid taller
ones as they tend to be brittle.
- Adapt ideas for windowsill gardening, and take a small
cut-and-come-again container of salad and herbs. The third page of
this
RHS leaflet of ideas for children has good suggestions.
- Use wide-based plastic containers instead of ceramic pots.
Match pot and plant to a suitably box or crate (preferably
collapsible for storage on site). Stand in a cupboard, or wedge
securely for travelling, or place on non-slip matting on the
floor.
- If on site for a few days, why not buy some fresh cut flowers?
Be prepared by taking an acrylic vase with you.
- Watch out if travelling beyond the EU. Customs
restrictions may limit what you can transport across
boarders.
