Get on your bike in 2010, says Sustrans

Published: 24 November 2009

Anyone wondering how to keep fit and healthy in the new year need look no further than cycling, it has been suggested.

Free Your Bike, a new campaign launched by Sustrans, challenges people to take to two wheels to burn off their festive excesses.

"By cycling and walking to keep active during the cold season, the chances of feeling down in the dumps are greatly reduced," noted Susie Lea, coordinator of Sustrans' Active Travel projects.

The Free Your Bike pack currently available from the charity is said to be suitable for people of all ages and encourages cycling among groups of friends and families alike.

It provides tailored cycle routes in local areas, which will make it easier for people to get up and go once the festive season comes to an end.

This follows recent news that local authorities in Wales had opted to develop and maintain cycle and walking paths in the country after rejecting proposals for two years.
