Holidaymakers are learning to enjoy day trips and outings in the UK, it has been suggested.
Peter Hampson, director at the British Resorts & Destinations Association, revealed how short breaks are a worthy substitute to the traditional two weeks in the sun.
"The great thing about the UK is that it is infinitely variable and it's a relatively small country," he suggested.
People are able to have a great day out without having to travel for any more than three or four hours, Mr Hampson indicated, giving them the chance to enjoy both attractions and scenery.
"You don't have to go abroad to experience variety," he emphasised.
Figures from VisitBritain show that during the first nine months of the year, despite a drop in visitor numbers, visitor spend per person increased.
Furthermore, this summer, three per cent more international visitors holidayed in Britain than in the same period of 2008.
