Easter break will bring 'busiest roads in years' across Britain

Published: 12 March 2010

Britain's roads are expected to be "exceptionally busy" this Easter holiday, according to new forecasts.

Traffficmaster predicts that caravan insurance customers heading off to caravan sites this holiday will be hit with "one of the busiest Easter breaks for several years".

The vehicle and traffic services firm believes that the main reason for this boost is due to the winter weather having discouraged many motorists from long road trips so far this year.

Trafficmaster's Georgina Read said: "It's anticipated that the majority of Britain's registered road vehicles will be on the road at some time over the Easter weekend, with Maundy Thursday on April 1st likely to be the busiest day across the Easter holiday period."

The M25 is expected to see the heaviest traffic and potential delays on April 1st, with major widening work taking place between Junctions 16 and 19.

However, motorists can at least look forward to clearer guidance on roads where work is being carried out, with transport minister Sadiq Khan having unveiled a range of measures to improve safety and information at building and improvement sites.
