Edinburgh walking, cycle routes set for spring clean

A number of walking and cycle routes throughout Edinburgh are braced for a good spring clean - but your help is needed.
Sustrans is asking people to join a group of eager volunteers to clear up parts of the National Cycle Network, which in turn will make it safer and more attractive.
Route 1 is a very popular means of getting around the historical city, so the sustainable transport charity is keen to keep it that way.
James Hatfield, one of the volunteers, commented: "2010 is a special year as it marks 15 years of the National Cycle Network
so there couldn't be a better time to clean up the route."
The clear up operation is scheduled for March 28th, when people are asked to meet at the Bangholm Outdoor Education Centre at 9am.
This follows the recent announcement from Sustrans that areas of Bristol have benefited from improved walking and cycle routes, leading to fewer car journeys being made.
