ONS: UK visits on the up

There has been a rise in the number of visits to the UK over the past few months, the latest figures show.
According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), trips increased by two per cent between November 2009 and January 2010 compared to the previous three months.
In this three-month period, 7.4 million visits were made to the UK, suggesting that the country's caravan sites may be busier than usual.
Visits from North America saw a particularly great increase, as the ONS noted a nine per cent rise when compared to the previous year.
However, trips abroad by UK residents fell during this period, suggesting that 2009 really was the year of the staycation.
In recent days, the Association of Independent Tour Operators' Ian Bradley revealed that people should take out travel insurance as a matter of course when going on holiday.
