The Hub helps to get Stockton moving

Published: 12 March 2010

People in Stockton have been given the opportunity to walk and cycle more thanks to the introduction of a new facility.

The Hub will be opened next week (March 16th) and gives locals advice on how to get more active in their everyday lives.

It will also provide a safe place for people to store their bikes and team members will be on hand to give out free maps and travel advice.

Sustrans manager Neil Mitchell commented: "We hope to be running a number of schemes in the future such as a 'bike buddy' scheme as well as a number of guided rides and walks around the Stockton area."

He added that walking and cycling are both healthy and inexpensive ways of travelling and can be used as the recommended 30 minutes of physical activity every day.

Bristol has also benefited from similar treatment in recent days, as new figures show the number of car journeys in the city have been reduced by 11 per cent over the past year.
