Strathaven Balloon Festival promises a bank holiday spectacle

Published: 23 August 2011

Caravan sites nearby Lanarkshire in Scotland will be subject to the astounding spectacle of hundreds of hot air balloons taking to the skies this weekend, as part of Strathaven Balloon Festival.

Taking place over the bank holiday between August 26th-28th, caravanners will be able to catch a glimpse of Scotland's only hot air balloon festival in full swing.

Families attending the festival at Strathaven Park will benefit from a whole range of fantastic attractions, including food and craft stalls, falconry, line dancing and stage events.

On Saturday at 21:00 BST, balloons will take to the sky in the evening for an exclusive tethered light display, entitled Evening Glow.

Accompanied by music, tethered to 4x4s will embark on a coordinated launch that will no doubt rival any fireworks display, while ballooners flick and flash their burners to light up their brightly coloured envelopes.

Balloon flights take place throughout the weekend, typically setting off at 06:30 and 18:30 BST when cool air conditions are safe.
