Avoid reversing into a car insurance claim
Published:

The number of car insurance claims that are lodged as a result of reversing vehicles is on the rise, new figures suggest.
It is estimated that travelling in reverse gear leads to £409 million a year in vehicle damage, as nearly 200,000 accidents occur on an annual basis, Accident Exchange revealed.
This equates to more than 500 incidents a day, with the average repair cost totalling £2,123.
Lee Woodley of Accident Exchange commented: "Despite the proliferation of technology such as parking sensors and reverse cameras, drivers are not taking enough care to accurately check their surroundings whilst reversing."
He explained that accidents will always happen, but it could be the case that motorists are relying too heavily on technology inside their cars, rather than using their own senses.
The group warned that the busiest Christmas shopping day is nearly here (23 December), which could lead to all sorts of collisions in the country's car parks.
