Gastronomy gives a perfect excuse for holidays in Spain

Published: 09 November 2011

Caravanners in search of winter sun on holidays in Spain will find the country's food is really something worth experiencing.

Each region will have its own local dishes and specialities, including everything from paella to tapas and lesser known cuisine, said journalist and author Anna Nicholas.

"For example, in Galicia the fish dishes are renowned, [as is the] paella in Valencia, arroz brut and sobrasada in Mallorca and jamon serrano in Seville," she explained.

There are also many cheeses that tourists should ensure they try out, Ms Nicholas suggested, such as manchego in Castile-La Mancha.

Wine fanatics will find there is no shortage of great produce to try, as everything from Riojas to sherries are available throughout Spain.

Official tourism figures show that more than six million overseas tourists were welcomed by Spain during September, marking a rise of 9.2 per cent on the same period of last year.
