Motorists fail to prepare for winter driving

Motorists up and down the country are risking needing the assistance of breakdown and recovery services by not preparing their vehicles for travelling in bad weather.
This is according to research from Manheim Auctions, which found that many people are failing to carry essential items such as jump leads, a shovel and warm clothing when they head out into the cold.
There are, however, some precautions that drivers are willing to take, as 89 per cent of respondents said they had topped up screen wash, while 80 per cent carry an ice scraper.
Other top tips included ensuring anti-freeze levels are as they should be, carrying de-icer and checking water levels.
Craig Mailey, marketing director of Manheim Auctions, explained that being prepared for winter motoring goes way beyond just having an ice scraper and de-icer in the car.
"You need to prepare for the possibility of being stuck in traffic for long periods or of getting stranded in the snow," he commented.
