Get your fill of sausages, beer and the autobahn with a trip to Germany

Published: 13 August 2012

Germany might not be the first destination you think of when it comes to travelling, however the destination is actually perfect for a caravan holiday.

Thanks to its borders with nine different countries it has a varied culture, with the way of life being markedly different in the north when compared to the south.

The country is steeped in history and is today one of the world's biggest economic and political powerhouses. Germany has been at the centre of two world wars and is also the birthplace of Albert Einstein and Beethoven, but it has moved with the times and you will be able to enjoy a progressive culture interspersed by these past references.

One of the things that Germany is renowned for is its quality. Whether this is in the shape of its manufacturing (think BMW and Audi), or the content of its sausages and beer, you are guaranteed to experience the infamous German efficiency.

In fact, when it comes to quality ale, the Reinheitsgebot – Germany's beer purity law – ensures that only barley, hops and water are used in the brewing process. While no longer in the statute books, many companies still adhere to it as a mark of distinction.

Aside from the quality Frankfurter's and German ale, the country has many cultural cities to visit, including Berlin, Hamburg, Hannover and Dresden.  Depending on the time of year that you travel, Oktoberfest, music concerts and Christmas markets could all be part of your adventure.

And if exploring is what you are looking for on your caravan holiday, then the landscape of forests, mountains and lakes which awaits will leave you with a photo album of stunning pictures.

Alpine breaks can be enjoyed in the Bavarian Alps, while the German countryside is waiting to be explored by foot. Complete your mixed modes of transport by taking a ride on the Danube, which originates in the Black Forest and passes through four Central European capital cities.

There are numerous campsites around Germany, but if you want to be in the middle of the action then Campingplatz Paulfeld will leave you in the centre of the country with the nation at your fingertips.
