Tips for your first time at a caravan rally

Published: 14 August 2012

If you've never been to a caravan rally, the name can be misleading. You might even imagine that it's similar to a car rally, and therefore involves nail-biting races that put your vehicle's speed to the ultimate test. Rest assured, the reality is very different.

A rally is simply a gathering of Caravan Club members who like a good weekend away with friends and family. It's also a great opportunity to socialise with like-minded individuals and explore unfamiliar parts of the country.

One of the best things about visiting a Caravan Club rally (and feel free to join in the community discussion here) is the fact that it attracts a really diverse, interesting crowd of people, all united by their love of caravanning. You might find yourself socialising with anyone from retired couples to families with young children, and dog-lovers with their pets.

Specific holiday rallies are held during periods such as Bank Holidays, half term and during the summer, so now is a good time to see if you can attend one before the school holidays end. In fact, the summer Bank Holiday is coming up (from August 25 – 27) so it's well worth doing some research to find a nearby rally to attend.

One of the things that sets rallies apart from a regular caravan holiday is the sheer amount of activities on offer. Some of the daytime events can include anything from fishing to ten pin bowling as well as coach and boat trips.

Socials tend to happen on Saturday nights and it's a great way to celebrate with all the new friends you will have made over the weekend. You might even win a prize during one of the competitions organised during any of the numerous campsite events. Don't worry if you're not that interested in organised activities; attendance and participation are entirely optional, and you can get involved as much or as little as you would like.

Rallies are one of the many perks of being a Caravan Club Member. This entitles you to attend any rally held by any centre. If you have Club Membership, it is a holiday option that is well worth exploring.
