Where should you go on a UK city break?

Published: 23 August 2012

You might assume, when it comes to a summer caravan holiday, that most people would opt to head for the coast. After all, nothing says summer quite like warm weather, lazy days on the beach and sand between your toes.

However, according to new research, many Britons would rather go into a city centre than head for the seaside.

A poll from sunshine.co.uk found that this type of holiday is becoming increasingly popular. Some 53 per cent of respondents said that they would choose a city break over a beach break, with 64 per cent of these stating that they found the former "less boring".

So, for those caravanners who want to experience the city without having to leave the UK, which are the best Caravan Club sites to visit?

No list of national city breaks would be complete without a reference to the capital. All eyes have been on London thanks to the summer Games, and with the area preparing for the Paralympics, now is a great opportunity to soak up some of its lively atmosphere.

Even if this was not an Olympic year, it would be a great choice of destination, thanks to its abundance of bars, restaurants, and cultural and historic sites.

Try Abbey Wood Caravan Club Site or Crystal Palace Caravan Club Site for peaceful, rural parks that nevertheless are easily reached from within the capital.

For a city break that's further north, you can't go wrong with a trip to Liverpool. It's one of the UK's cultural hubs, thanks to its lively night life, smart art gallery and its rock and roll history.

Perhaps best known as the birthplace of the Beatles, Liverpool is extremely proud of its legacy, and music fans will find much to love at the museum dedicated to the Fab Four.

Plus, now is the ideal time to visit the city as this year marks 50 years since the band's first appearance on TV. Although the original Cavern Club where the Beatles played has been knocked down since, its latest incarnation is a thriving Liverpool institute that is known for hosting Fab Four tribute bands playing a back catalogue of catchy hits.

For sites near the city, try Southport Caravan Club Site or Wirral Country Park Caravan Club Site.
