A new smartphone and tablet app will put access to Britain in the palm of a traveller's hand.
The new Best of British app, a collaboration between VisitBritain and Samsung, provides users with up-to-the-minute information on the nation's finest social and cultural attractions.
Laurence Bresh, director of marketing at VisitBritain, described the app as "invaluable".
It will be particularly beneficial to the 30.7 million visitors expected in Britain during 2012, thanks to the London 2012 Olympics as well as the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
However, it will also prove useful to anyone planning a caravanning holiday, providing a quick and easy means to discover hidden local attractions.
Special features include a "Near Me" function that lists attractions in the immediate vicinity of the user.
There is also an "Eating and Drinking" function that holidaymakers can use to find local restaurants, taking into account any dietary preferences such as vegetarianism.
The app will be available for Samsung Galaxy and Galaxy Tab users.
