A UK staycation will remain a popular choice for 2012 holidaymakers

Published: 31 January 2012

A travel expert believes that an increasing number of people will enjoy a staycation in Britain in 2012.

Travel writer Linsey McNeill said: "It's safe to say the UK will do very well this year for holidays."

One of the reasons for this is the fact that flying out of UK airports is about to become more expensive, as Air Passenger Duty will increase by eight per cent in April.

A staycation is therefore an affordable and pleasant alternative to going overseas.

It is also much more convenient, particularly when travelling with young children.

Caravanning is an excellent way to enjoy a British break.

A caravan provides flexible accommodation at a reasonable price, making it perfect for families.

It is a good idea to choose a staycation destination close to one of the UK's many national trails.

These are scenic long distance routes located throughout England and Wales that are ideal for walking and cycling.
