Countryside walkers need the right kit

Walking in the countryside might be a popular pursuit, but it
can soon become stressful without the right kit.
Des De Moor, Ramblers' senior everyday walking officer, explained
that there are a number of key items that need to be taken on walks
near caravan sites.
"Good, practical footwear and several layers of clothing,
including a waterproof top layer, are comfort essentials anywhere
and particularly important in rougher countryside," he
suggested.
Although the weather might be overcast, a hat and sun cream are
essential, as ultraviolet rays can still appear through the
clouds.
Mr De Moor also recommends carrying food, water and a small first
aid kit, as well as an extensive map of the area.
GPS navigators are popular at the moment, although should not be
solely relied upon in case their batteries should suddenly lose
charge, added the expert, with the same said for mobile phones.
