Have you been to The Caravan Club's Site of the Month?

Published: 31 July 2012

There are so many excellent Caravan Club sites to choose from for a caravanning holiday that it can sometimes be difficult to select just one.

Fortunately, we've taken some of the guess work out of your decision by recommending one of our favourites: Southland Caravan Club Site. This picturesque piece of land was July's Site of the Month on The Club website and with good reason.

Set in the gorgeous Isle of Wight, it is a location that allows you to break out of your comfort zone slightly while still retaining the warmth and familiarity of home. Plus, it's absolutely stunning: half of the island is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the site itself is set within the visually stunning Arreton Valley.

It's a particularly good location to have as a base during the warmer (fingers crossed!) summer months, thanks to the fact that it's within easy reach of some of the loveliest beaches on the island. These include Sandown and Shanklin, both of which boast sandy shores and safe, sheltered bathing. It's truly a great site for nature lovers as there's a wealth of activities on offer for those who enjoy getting active outdoors.

Whether you want to try your hand at water-based activities like freshwater and sea fishing or simply go horse riding in the brisk island air, you have some great options to choose from. More conventional sporting activities like golf, squash, tennis and windsurfing are also available.

Other attractions on the island include the brilliant Isle of Wight Zoo (home to Britain's largest collections of tigers) and the Ventnor Botanic Garden.

History buffs will also enjoy a visit to Osborne House, which was Queen Victoria's favourite country home during her reign.

If you're wondering how to get there, you'll need to take the ferry from Portsmouth to Fishbourne. Don't worry though: a discount is available to Club Members who book their transport through the right channels and the journey only takes around 35 minutes.
