Most people will be familiar with the scene from The Sound of
Music, where the von Trapp family is dancing and singing in the
Austrian mountains.
In a snapshot, this is what the landlocked nation of Austria offers
those on a caravan holiday; stunning countryside, snow-topped
mountains, lakes, forests and historic cities.
Vienna is the home of culture in this nation, and is famous for its
theatre, music and fine arts. For instance, running until June 17th
is the Gold festival at Lower Belvedere, while the 12 Festival for
Fashion and Photography is also coming to the capital this
summer.
In the west of Austria, close to the German border, is Innsbruck.
This city is worth a visit for its Alpine Zoo which hosts more than
2,000 animals, while Salzburg was home to the filming of large
parts of The Sound of Music, with tour companies offering
sightseeing trips around many of the film's famous landmarks.
For the food-lover, meat is a staple entry on most menus, while
regional breweries are also worth a try for their distinctive
flavours and the wine is also excellent.
